A Christmas Song

un·furl

/ˌənˈfərl/

verb

make or become spread out from a rolled or folded state, especially in order to be open to the wind."a man was unfurling a sail"

They say the eyes are the gates to the soul. Each one who is a parent remembers the first gaze into the eyes of their child: this tiny being who is a part of you yet his or her own being with a blank slate of life ahead! It’s a miracle repeated countless times around the world. We parents are naturally biased when it comes to our children. They are the cutest, the smartest, the strongest; the list goes on. Imagine, however, getting a glimpse of the future of that child! Imagine what fantastic things your mind would construct based on the little knowledge you have. Mary had been told her son would save his people! I wonder what went through Mary’s mind. She lived in a world ruled by a ruthless oppressive foreign power. She probably thought this little boy was going to be a powerful general who would marshal the armies of Israel to victory against Rome. Did she have an idea of the seismic shift in the spiritual realm that would happen as a result of this little boy? I can only speculate. The truth, however, is that the moment that baby’s eyes opened, the hope of the world was unfurled! All who looked into those eyes would know, God is with us, God is for us! There is a future without oppression. Behind those eyelids, in the piercing gaze of God’s love, the sum of all our hopes is held. In a time of uncertainty and fear, the message of Christmas rings true. There is hope, and his name is Jesus! Please take a listen and let it bless you.

18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. Click here for CHORDS
